Philando Castile Peace Garden

Project Details

On July 6, 2016, Philando Castile was killed in a police-involved shooting in Falcon Heights. After raising more than $200,000, the Philando Castile Peace Garden Committee hired Flannery Construction to complete the project at the site of the shooting. The garden’s center includes a tree grate designed by Artist Seitu Jones, part of a cosmogram that lines up with the rising sun on the day of his birth, and the setting sun on the day of his death. It also features winding paths and beautiful gardens, and serves as a place of remembrance, hope and reflection for community members.
