Meaning “Our Home” in Ojibwe, Ain Dah Yung provides critical shelter and supportive housing services for Native American youth aged 18 to 24 in Minnesota. To support the organization’s growing demand and fulfill its goal of creating a dignified space for young people, Flannery Construction executed a comprehensive renovation and structural repair of the aging emergency shelter. The extensive project encompassed complete exterior and interior upgrades, including foundation improvements, new roofing, gutters, masonry tuckpointing, new windows, and upgraded exterior decks, ramps, and walkways for full ADA compliance.
Inside, Flannery rebuilt three bathrooms, remodeled the kitchen, installed new flooring, acoustical ceilings, and lighting, and completely updated all mechanical, electrical, and plumbing equipment. Site improvements—such as a new asphalt driveway, site concrete sidewalks, rebuilt retaining walls, and re-grading for enhanced water management—were integrated to protect the structure long-term. Despite severe hurdles, including a burst pipe and the need to rapidly accelerate the schedule based on building vacancy, Flannery efficiently adapted its schedule to deliver a safe, updated, and welcoming facility.
