Project Details
American Indian Family and Children’s Services (AIFACS) is a St Paul-based nonprofit organization whose mission is to “develop and support foster homes in providing compassionate, stable, secure and culturally competent care for American Indian children and youth.” AIFACS currently provides foster homes for approximately 75 children each month, as it strives to keep these children connected to their culture and their respective tribes. The organization’s work spans the entire state of Minnesota, which has the highest rate of out-of-home placements for American Indian children in the country. AIFACS acquired a vacant building in St. Paul, and hired Flannery Construction to repair structural damage caused by the deterioration of the original wood roof trusses in the historic property. Flannery installed new permanent steel supports for the existing roof; reinforced selected wood truss members; and conducted masonry repair and tuckpointing – all of which complied with historic building requirements.
